The Grand Sultans of Excess is a Missouri non-profit focused on participating it the St. Louis Mardi Gras Parade Tradition.
For over 30+ years, the GSOE organization has proudly been a part of the St. Louis Mardi Gras Parade, earning the distinction of being the second longest running float. With each passing year, our dedicated group of Sultans comes together to envision, design, and build an extraordinary float, all while spreading joy by throwing beads to the cheering parade goers.
Our mission remains the same - to create unforgettable experiences, radiate positivity, and embrace the spirit of celebration. Year after year, we unite in the pursuit of fun and camaraderie, leaving an indelible mark on the Mardi Gras festivities.
Grand Sultans of Excess was founded in 1993. We are the 2nd longest operating float in the St. Louis Mardi Gras Parade. Our goal is to be the longest!

We review all applications and if space is available the following steps can be accomplished:
A "Grand Sultan" is an esteemed and influential participant who embodies the spirit of the organization.
The title of "Grand Sultan" is given to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, leadership, and passion for the Mardi Gras float and its mission.
As a Grand Sultan, they serve as ambassadors of the organization, inspiring and motivating others to contribute their talents and resources to create memorable and extravagant float displays. With their unwavering dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm, Grand Sultans play a pivotal role in upholding the traditions, camaraderie, and success of the Grand Sultans of Excess, making a lasting impact on the St. Louis Mardi Gras Parade and the community it celebrates.
Every year we honor one of our own “The Grand Sultan”. They get the privilege of riding in the float throne during the Grand Parade.
This honor is decided upon by those that have already been honored in previous years.
